SUMMER DAY CAMPS AT TORONTO'S HISTORIC MUSEUMS & CULTURAL CENTRES 2006 

The Culture Division is pleased to present several Summer Day Camp and workshop programs for young people. These activities provide enriching entertainment while allowing children to explore the world of art and Toronto 's exciting history.

High Park Discovery Camp - For Ages 7 – 11
Visit the country home of John and Jemima Howard and cook in the historic kitchens, make crafts, play games on the lawn, and explore many of the great places in High Park . Children may sign up for 1 week or 2. Program themes alternate each week. A second week booking does not have to be consecutive. Pre-registration & pre-payment required. $150 per week includes snacks, supplies, and G.S.T.

Arts and Heritage Camp – Ages 6 to 11:
Hours: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Extended care: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
A week-long day camp for children ages 6 to 11 with a focus on history and the arts! An opportunity for children to immerse themselves in nineteenth century rural life and to express this experience creatively through artistic endeavours. Children can look forward to: delightful treats which they prepare in the historic kitchen, a day trip to another historic site, arts activities that reflect their historic experiences, swimming sessions, and lots of recreational games and creative activities (delete text that follows) and an old-fashioned picnic on the lawn . Different themes for July and August camps – children can sign up for a week each month. Pre-registration & pre-payment required. $120 per week (extended care $20 extra).

Pioneer Adventure Day Camp – Ages 6 to 11
Monday to Friday - 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Our camps are jam packed full of activities! This very popular program gives children the chance to try 19 th century skills, arts and crafts, cooking, games, and theatre arts. Each week we highlight one theme, but children get an exciting experience in all areas of settler life, as well as nature hikes in the park and cooling off in the wading pool. Ages 6 to 11 . Pre-registration is required. Call 416-338-4FUN to pre-register. $128 per child. Extended care available from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for $20.

Adventures in Archaeology Camp –  10 to 14 yrs.
Tuesday to Friday, July 4 to 7 & Monday to Friday, July 10 to 14 – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Learn to excavate and record artifacts with professional archaeologists from the Ontario Heritage Foundation. Pre-registration required. $145/4 days ($20 extended hours); $180/5 days ($25 extended hours)

Spadina Safari Camp – 5 to 8 yrs.
Monday, July 10 to Friday, July 14— 9:30 a.m. to Noon

Creative exploration for children aged 5 to 8 years including games, crafts, and cooking in a historic setting. Pre-registration required. $15 per morning or $70 for all five.

Art and Drama Summer Day Camp – 8 to 12 yrs.
July 17 to 28– 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
August 14 to 25 – 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Two 2-week sessions of creative exploration in a unique setting, culminating in a performance and art show for friends and family.
Pre-registration required. $275/ 10 days, $50 for extended hours.

Anime Drawing & Manga Workshops for Teens - 14 to 18 yrs.
July 31, August 2 & 4 - 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
August 9 & 11 – Noon to 4 p.m.

Explore the vibrant Japanese art forms of anime & manga. Incorporate various themes, styles & messages to create your own personal comic book vision. Workshops will include instructions on anime drawing, storyline development & plot as well as a guided analysis of anime using film clips from various artists in the business. Pre-registration required. $60/ 2 day session, $75/3 day session.

Banbury Kids Day Camp is a non-profit summer program that was started by a volunteer parent committee in affiliation with North York Parks and Recreation. High Park Eco Camp

A fun-filled week is available for campers to hike through High Park's ravines and trails and learn how to garden.
